For those who perservered through wallowing winds (or the lack of any wind) on Saturday morning, you were rewarded with breeze that filled in on Saturday afternoon. Palangi reported a 75 mile spinnaker run down the Sound, on winds that filled in on Saturday around 1400 hours and stayed decent up to Sunday morning around 0200 hours. Patchy breeze got most boats home between 0230 and 0430 hours, with the last boat crossing at 0718.
For those who stuck it out, the finishes were tight. In the Spinnaker division Gremlin took line honors for both class and race, but got beat by 33 minutes by Lindy. And in the Double Handed division Palangi won Class B and Coconut Telegraph won class C through speed and attrition. Overall, Palangi beat Lindy for PHRF corrected time honors by 26 seconds. 161 miles and the overall winner was decided by a single puff.
Thanks for all those who participated. We will be working out the schedule for next year's race sometime around February or March, and will be sure to keep you updated. If you ordered T shirts, or won silver, I will be shipping those out to you over the next week or so. If you would like additional T shirts (long or short sleeve versions) please let me know ASAP and I will order them. Also, Chip Riegel will be getting in touch with you with proofs for the photos he took on Friday's start. I have a Riegel hanging in my office and he has a great eye. Hopefully he got a good shot of you at the start.
