Saturday bought a lot of disappointment for the racers at the Etchell's Long Island Championship. The race committee set up outside of Duck Island to give all the competitors an equal chance. The wind didn't cooperate though. There was a nice breeze on the inside of the island blowing from the SW but it never filled in.
The party was good so DIYC hopes it lessen the sting of not racing.
Tom Carrs, PRO, said that racing would start an hour earlier and also said that one race would be a regatta.
Good luck to all the racers and letsd hope for a nice windy day on Sunday.
Pictures to come
The Etchell Long Island Championship started an hour early on Sunday. The committee boat set up outside and to the West Duck Island. They got four races in with windward leeward. The first races were about 50 minutes in length. Only one race was inside as to not give the advantage to the Duckies.
Boats from Canada, California and the Eastern seaboard met with 24 boats on the line.
I got to the yacht club a bit late to hear the results. But I did hear that some new guy who never raced an Etchell before won the whole thing! Turns out he was from California, bought the boat in the Midwest and trailer it here to race. Well, best of luck to him. I also heard the top finish for the Duck Island boats was sixth overall.
Mostly the rain held off but we could have used wind on Saturday. We hope everyone enjoyed the facilities, the racing and the food. When the results get posted, we'll either link to them or post them as well.
I've been promised some pictures and those will be put up too.
