With a one hour wind delay the Pine Orchard Yacht Club got us out there on a windward / leeward course, twice around. The RC did a great gob of keeping us all informed via the radio. First time racers need not be intimidated, between the race instruction sheet and the information given by the RC on the radio, you will know what to do. We had our misgivings with no wind at 10am but the patient RC waited until 11 and started us off. Crew and skippers were VERY distracted by the bikini babes on a J30. I took off my top to no avail, I guess sports bras just don't cut it. The wind was light at about 5 knots but filled in to about 8 knots during the race. Surrender, in Cruising Class 4, tried to port tack their whole fleet at the start but ended up ducking several. they went on to win their class. Of course going to the windward mark on the first leg was long and going down hill was hot. I was thinking, SHORTEN, but they didn't and I was glad. With light winds, the light boats did well. These boats include Dr. Evil, Brilliant Disguise and En Charette. Encore had a great weekend taking firsts on Saturday and Sunday. Watch out for this boat in the coming weeks. Pine Orchard also hosted a very nice party after the race. They have a beautiful club house and grounds. We were served hot dogs and hamburgers with corn chowder. Thanks for the veggie burger guys, it hit the spot. Here's how the boats finished:
PHRF 1 PHRF 2 PHRF 3 Dr. Evil Brilliant Disguise En Charette Secret Savage Golden Rule Dilemma Spectre Park Place Maximus Windshear Mentor Burning Desire Nunnehi Arabesque XSNRG Euphoria Bruja Fury Mad Cap IX Anneliese Skibereen Esperance Intrepid
Cruising 4 Cruising 5 Surrender Encore Brown Eyed Girl Irish Lady Ellusive Leda Aurora Barcat Peregrine Windsong II Tre Scooch Zephyrr
Pine Orchard has a trophy for the best POYC boat. It's called the Charlie T. Sturgess Memorial Trophy. This year this perpetual award was giving Dilemma who finished third in the PHRF 1 fleet. |
