Seasick at Offsoundings

I went to a Christmas party the other day and met up with a fellow crew mate. When I mentioned that I would be posting an article about Off-soundings and his seasickness he wanted EVERYONE to know who he was!
As I said in a previous article the fall series was rough. Woody got seasick. Of course he didn't just get seasick, in his mind he was on death's doorstep. Sorry Woody, I've seen worse. Anyway after turning into the child in The Exorcist with everything except the head spinning, we finished the race. When we did the spring off soundings and ended up in Block Island we took the launch in. Woody was afraid of having to take another launch in and then being sick in front of other racers. He planned to stay aboard with a radio until he returned to the land of the living.
Friday night we did the usually stuff but Woody had a plan. He needed to search for seasick pills. Another member of our crew had all the supplies he needed but Woody felt, I guess, that because she is a woman, her stuff wouldn't be strong enough. Lynn explained that he should take half a pill and then more if needed. Nope, Woody took the WHOLE dosage and then some.
Saturday was just as rough as Friday but worse because we were tired from Friday. Woody was on board but strangely quiet. The pills made him sleepy. Now we had to practically wake him up every time we wanted to tack. Then of course his balance was also off so he was falling on me all the time. Believe me when I tell you that I've never had to say this to a good looking single man: Woody, get off of me! Thankfully the race was short.
If you think you might get seasick, tell the people around you. They'll keep an eye on you and realize that you wont be helping out much. For people who don't get seasick, watch others and help them out. The biggest concern is dehydration as well as falling out of the boat. The only cure for it is to sit under a tree. I think this was said by JFK when talking about his time in the navy.
